PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Michael Thompson had one of only five rounds under par Sunday to win his first PGA Tour event at the Honda Classic.
Thompson seized control with a 50-foot eagle putt on the third hole. He stayed in control with superb par saves early on the back nine at PGA National. He made birdie from the bunker on the last hole for a 1-under 69 and a two-shot victory over Geoff Ogilvy.
I'm always pulling for the underdogs especially for a guy to win his first PGA Tour event. Many congratulations to Michael Thompson. I'm left wondering why Tiger Woods finishing with a 74 and ending tied for 37th was truly noteworthy.
